The Costly Battle Against Chinese Knockoffs – Here’s a Real Life Example

Thousands of U.S. brands have found almost identical copies of their products being sold by Chinese companies online. From cars to clothes, the Chinese knock-off industry has grown rapidly in recent years along with the internet. With low manufacturing costs and massive demand, it doesn’t look like it’s going away any time soon.

The American made Footmate® System, a brand owned by Gordon Brush® is currently dealing with the issue. Their trademarked product is a brush that goes in the shower or bath to clean, massage, and scrub feet. The product features over 11,000 bristles and suction cups on the bottom for easy use. Gordon Brush® has been producing the Footmate® System since 2012, but has been hard hit by Chinese knock-offs. The latest infringer of their established product is Allstar Products Group, a consumer products company, which released the Fresh Feet Scrubber in February.

The product is an exact replica of the Footmate® brush, from the color scheme, to its description on their website, and an almost exact copy of their video.

But Did You Know That We Have Loved Feet Throughout The Ages?

When you use The FootMate® System, Your Feet Will Love You!...® And they should! You’re treating them like royalty and giving them the care they deserve. But did you know that feet have been loved, respected – even revered by civilizations and religions throughout history? It’s true! In this post, we’ll explore how some of the major civilizations and religions have held the foot up as sacred and why you should too!

Feet Mythology

Ancient Greeks - The Ancient Greeks were quite fond of feet. In fact, they gave one of their most popular Greek gods the gift of “foot flight.” According to GreekGods.info: “Hermes was wearing wings on his sandals and therefore was the speediest of all Greek gods. Because of his speed, Hermes received the role of the messenger and conductor of souls to the Underworld.” Clearly the Ancient Greeks appreciated feet if they gave this cherished god souped-up sandals. Doubt Hermes ever had calluses!

Who Will Save Your Sole?

Christianity - Feet have also been a symbol of holiness in the Christian faith. After all, Jesus used his feet to walk on water and at The Last Supper he practiced foot washing on his disciples. According to Podiatrist and Shoe Historian Cameron Kippen: “Foot washing acts as a renewal of baptism and commitment to living God's way of life. Foot washing is still practiced in one form or other throughout the world on the Thursday before Good Friday.” Pope Francis even washed the feet of refugees and prison inmates to honor this enduring Holy Thursday tradition.

Foot Prince

Buddhism - Foot fascination is also prominent in Buddhism - the world’s fourth largest religion. The iconic imagery of The Footprints of the Buddha, or “Buddhapapda” is an imprint of the Buddha’s feet that has tremendous religious and symbolic meaning. “The footprints of the Buddha symbolize the Buddha’s presence, as they are believed to be the imprints where the Buddha actually touched the ground. At the same time, the Buddhapada signify the Buddha’s absence now that he has entered nirvana, and thus are a reminder of the Buddhist idea of nonattachment.” These iconic imprints of the holy Buddha’s feet show how this religion takes the foot very seriously.

REFRESH, RESTORE, RENEW!...®

But What Causes Our Feet to Need Refreshing, Restoring, and Renewal in The First Place?

Our FEET! We love them. We need them. Ever since we took our first steps, they’ve taken us where we need to go. But sometimes, our most dependable transportation system can get sore and achy. So why do our feet get so run down? And what can we do to help them feel better? In this post, we’ll examine common causes of foot pain and provide you with simple tips to help keep your feet pain-free.

FOOT WEAR AND TEAR

Did you know that according to the American Podiatric Medical Association, 72% of Americans will suffer with foot pain? It’s true! So if you have foot pain, you’re not alone. It’s very common! So what’s causing all this tension in our feet? Well, potentially a lot of things. Here’s a few:

1) If The Shoes Don’t Fit, You Must Acquit! - If the shoes you’re wearing feel uncomfortable, it may be time to get a new pair. Harvard Health Publishing has tips on buying comfortable shoes that include bringing your own socks with you to the shoe store and doing your shoe shopping in the afternoon since your feet expand with use during the day.

2) Excessive Walking - Walking is great for your health, but it can sometimes make your feet hurt. According to The Center for Podiatric Care and Sports Medicine, “the most common reason for aching feet is simply inflammation and swelling from blood being forced down into your feet to compensate for the increased pounding.” But don’t stop walking! It’s good exercise. Instead, they recommend wearing shock-absorbing footwear like hiking boots or athletic trainers, stretching before a walk, and to bring water with you.

3) Standing On Your Feet Too Long - Bartenders, Security Guards, Teachers, Bank Tellers - all these professions demand long periods of standing. Unfortunately, this prolonged standing can cause strain on our feet. According to Podiatrist, Richard H. Graves, DPM -“Standing in one place is notorious for causing foot and leg pain.” He recommends walking whenever you get a chance, elevating your feet at break time for 10-15 minutes, and wearing arch supports:

And don’t forget the best tip of all to soothe achy feet… The FootMate® System! The FootMate® brush massages and stimulates circulation and blood flow to the feet. It’s like your own personal foot massage!..."a car wash for your feet!" REFRESH, RESTORE, RENEW!...®
